As we celebrate Juneteenth, it's important to remember the struggles and achievements of past generations. One such figure is Marshall "Major" Taylor, one of the most successful and talented cyclists of his time. Born to sharecropper parents in the 1870s, Taylor faced racial discrimination and hardship throughout his career.
Despite these obstacles, he persevered and became the first African-American world champion in cycling in 1899. Taylor's legacy as a pioneer in the sport continues to inspire today.
On this Juneteenth, let us honor the bravery and determination of those who came before us, like Major Taylor, and strive to build a brighter future for all.
